Since it was launched, Pokemon Go has caused much uproar in all parts of the world. It’s not surprising that many tricks and jokes regarding the game have appeared. One fan, in particular, seems to have taken things a little too far. He has dyed his puppy to look like the famous Pokemon character, Pikachu.

There was a video posted on Facebook that shows what a dog looked like after it was dyed with yellow, brown, and red dye. His owner might had thought it cute, but Elihudi Justin Urassa, the person who posted the video, was not happy with it at all. He captioned his video: “They made their dog look like Pikachu,” but was clearly upset about the happening.

The video has already gained more than 3 million views, and most people have spoken against the dog owner. They commented that what the owner did is plainly abusive and cruel. Eventually, the issue of animal rights was brought up. Even the spokesperson for PETA, Lindsay Rajt, had weighed in on the matter, saying that it’s unsafe to dye any animal’s fur, and there’s absolutely no good reason for anybody to do it. She added that it could lead to complications or an allergic reaction if water gets inside the ears of the animal during the dyeing process.

While there were those that criticized the dog owner, there were also some people that came to his defense. They commented that what the owner did was not a form of abuse because the puppy seemed happy and okay.

How about you? Do you think the dog owner violated any animal rights?

You might have heard of Kopi Luwak– the coffee that is blended from defecated coffee beans by Asian civet cat, or the current trend of enriching food flavor by adding placenta in it. If these sound disgusting to you, then you might have a hard time warming up to the idea of cockroach milk.

Cockroach milk might be the craziest thing you’ll hear this year, but it does not make it anything less than possible. It turns out the Pacific Beetle Cockroaches feed their babies with a formula that’s rich in sugar, fat, and protein. This formula then forms into protein crystals in the stomach of baby cockroaches.

Watch video here

While it’s called cockroach milk, it not exactly similar to the kind of milk we’re used to drinking. The liquid that is harvested from the cockroaches can actually be considered a complete food; it has the essential amino acids, lipids, protein, and sugar. Hence, it has 3x the energy given by buffalo milk and 4x the energy given by cow’s milk.

How in the world do you get milk from a cockroach?

The process is complicated, and it mainly involves extracting crystals from the gut of cockroach embryos. Scientists are still studying about how to make the process faster so that they can mass produce the milk.

So is cockroach milk disgusting? Definitely, yes. Is it healthy? Even more so. While they still have not found a way to mass produce it, you might want to take this time as an opportunity to fully prepare yourself for its release in the market.

Whether you are a Pokemon Go fan or not, you can’t deny that the game has made a huge impact. You may have read news about the many ridiculous things fans have done in the name of fun, but have you ever heard about how the game was used for a good cause? Well, a zookeeper did exactly that; she used Pokemon Go to make visitors pay more attention to zoo animals.

A zookeeper in Birmingham, Alabama noticed that most visitors of their zoo are preoccupied with their phones. Why? They were all trying to catch Pokemons, of course. This had been a common sight in the area because the zoo housed a lot of Pokestops. Meanwhile, the animals in the zoo were completely ignored. People had traded them for virtual pocket monsters, and they were treated like they were not even there. Saddened by the scene, the zookeeper decided to embrace the game and came up with a brilliant idea of giving the place a Pokemon make-over. She created Pokemon-inspired cards for each zoo animal under her care and posted them on her Tumblr.

These are some of the Pokemon-inspired cards she made:

Clearly, she took her job with passion and wanted the visitors to take their eyes off their phone screens and focus on the real animals around them.

Now, visitors not only come to the zoo for its Pokestops but also to see the animals and their keeper’s Pokemon-inspired cards.

Have you ever wondered whether animals could go vegan or not? What would happen if they do? You need not rack your brains any further as the case has already happened to a Weimaraner, and the findings have been clearly documented by in Imgur user.

“HELP!!! I came home to find that my dog had eaten a whole package of vegan soy sausages!” she wrote. “I don’t know if it’s gonna make her sick or not.”

When she found that her pet ate Tofurky, a vegan sausage which was not originally part of the dog’s meal plan, she was in fright. This had never happened before, and she had no idea how it would affect her dog. The owner’s fear grew worse when the dog started to do strange things. Minutes after the dog digested the vegan food, she decided to put on a hat. Later on, she became despondent. Suddenly, she tried to match the hat with converse shoes and requested for a vinyl record to be played.

But that’s not all! She grabbed a book and started reading. Then, she put it down and asked for green dragon craft ale and probiotic froyo before she engaged in barking at Capitalist pigs. The owner had to calm her down and explain she couldn’t really vote because the right to suffrage was not extended to animals yet.

There’s no doubt that this new vegan dog had turned hipster! Even so, people still love her for who she is because vegan dogs deserve all the love and acceptance they need.

Have you seen a squirrel hopping around with a yogurt cup on its head? How about a group of emergency rescue workers trying to catch one tiny animal with a pink blanket in hand? While it sounds too ridiculous to be true, it has actually happened, and the sight does not fail to tickle every person who has watched it.

A squirrel with a yogurt cup head has recently made an online buzz in the Connecticut town of Enfield when not just one, but a whole team of emergency rescue workers struggled to get the cup off its head.

While the other rescue workers were trying their best to help the poor animal, one captured the funny moment on video. At one time, one of them was heard asking if the squirrel bites. This was answered by a flat “yes,” which was not good news for all of them.

The fun didn’t stop there. Just when they finally got hold of it with their blanket, the animal leaped out, escaped, and went straight to the camera.

But after much laughter, the squirrel was eventually caught and freed of the cursed yogurt cup.

If you haven’t watched the video yourself, check it now and become a fan of the newest social media star—the squirrel with a yogurt hat!

10 Cool Ways Animals Can See In The Dark

It always impresses us each time we discover how an animal can see vividly in the dark.  It’s actually because of their intriguing night vision. There are cool adaptations that help animals view objects in the dark. Here are 10 ways that animals can do this trick.

10. Eye Size

The size of the eye plays a significant role in allowing animals to see things better. That’s why the colossal squid has the ability to see well in the depths of the ocean despite the darkness.

9. Honing In

Similar to squids, this animal also has large eyes that can hone in and see objects even from great distances– not to mention the rotating head. Due to this, the tarsier has the capability to see things clearly even in the dark.

8. Lens Size

[paragraph]

Another characteristic that contributes to the adaptation of seeing objects in the dark is the size of the lens. The eyes of an owl have a large lens, thus more light reaches the retina allowing the eyes to see objects better at night.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

In addition to having big eyes, the head of an owl can also rotate up to 270 degrees making it possible to see prey in the dark and even at different distances. This means that the bigger the size of the lens, the better the eyes can function at night even with a lack of light.

[/paragraph]

7. More Rods

Humans and vertebrate animals have special cells at the rear part of the eyes namely the cones and rods. These cells are light sensitive in which the rods are responsible for allowing the eyes to see light in different amounts. On the other hand, the cones are responsible for determining the colors. This means that animals that have powerful night vision have more cone and rod cells.

6. In the Center

If there are more rod cells within the retina of the eyes, then the animals can have amazing night vision. This shows the importance of having more rod cells so that possibility of focusing on light can be greater. If animals have more rod cells, then they can see even the smallest light at night.

5. Sensitivity to Light

If the human eyes can determine the amount of brightness during daytime and nighttime, some animals can also identify the difference between dark and light through their sensitive cells. The cells within the retina of the eyes have the ability to detect the light, particularly at night. The sensitivity of the cells also helps in detecting the movements of objects even if there’s a lesser amount of light available.

4. Peculiar eyes

The spookfish lives in the deep part of the sea, about 2 km beneath the surface.  The eyeball of the spookfish has tissues aligned with special crystals that serve as mirrors. When this animal sees the light, it will reflect inside the eye; thus the ability to focus on the light is greater. With this adaptation, the spookfish can see objects better at night.

3. Focus

Leaf-tailed geckos are a species that have the capability to see objects 350 times better than humans, even at night. The incredible night vision they have is made possible by the vertical pupils that get even wider in low light environments. With this powerful night vision, it is easier for these animals to see their surroundings even if there’s very little light visible.

2. Upside down

Research revealed that some mammals have chromosomes that are arranged upside down within the nucleus of the rod cells inside the eyes.

1. Headlights

[paragraph]

There are some animals whose eyes have a special membrane known as tapetum lucidum. This special membrane is present in sheep, raccoons and deer. It is located at the rear part of the retina and helps the eye to see more light.

The eyes of these animals glow at night in a bright yellowish green color even in the dark and particularly when light shines on them. This special characteristic of an animal is a great way for them to protect themselves against predators at night.

There is a difference between what we define as unbearably cute and unbelievably ugly. Living on this planet can sometimes blur that difference, which makes it difficult to decide which one is which. But let’s be completely honest – even human babies can look a bit freaky. Take the blobfish for instance, it was recently voted as the world’s ugliest animal. But if you take a really good look at them, blobfish are kind of cute. You can help us decide whether these animals are too hideous or too cute for their own good.

22. A Baby Wombat

[paragraph]

Media 2015-12-12 at 4.46.10 PM

Now, if you’ve ever wondered what happiness looks like, take a look at this hairless baby wombat who definitely knows how to say “cheese”.  If you want to find this cutie, you should head to south-eastern Australia. They are about 1 m (40 in) in length with small, stubby tail

[/paragraph][paragraph]

More than a few people are happy that wombats spend the majority of their lives burrowed underground. In fact, when they are not hiding, the wombats can charge humans. They bite, too! But at least this one found a new friend! Humans can receive puncture wounds from wombat claws, as well as bites.

[/paragraph]

21. The Blob Fish

[paragraph]

This blob fish is a deep sea fish that lives in the deep waters (i.e. at depth between 600 and 1,200 meters) off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

Usually, the blobfish is shorter than 30 cm. The flesh of this beast is mainly a gelatinous mass, and it has a density that is slightly less than water; this allows the blob fish to be pretty lazy and float above the sea floor without swimming.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

A lot of people think it’s the world’s ugliest animal. I say beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And by the way, this beast could become an endangered species due to deep-sea trawling.

[/paragraph]

20. A Baby Bat

[paragraph]

Those long black claws and bulbous eyes that can bore into the soul are quite distressing. But doesn’t he look kind of adorable? If you don’t like it, note that there are about 1,100 species of bats in the world, making up 25% of the world’s mammal population. You will surely find one that you like…

[/paragraph][paragraph]

If you didn’t find the previous baby bat cute, this other baby bat is going to freak you out. Honestly, this is straight out of a nightmare. But don’t be too scared, there are ONLY three species of “vampire bats”, i.e. bats that enjoy the blood of other animals for lunch.

[/paragraph]

19. A Baby Hippopotamus

[paragraph]

Unlike this baby hippo which was fortunate to come to life in a zoo, baby hippos are generally born underwater. They weight between 25 and 50 kg (55 and 110 lb) and have an average length of around 127 cm (4.17 ft). They must swim to the surface in order to take their first breaths.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

“You know I’m the cutest of them all. Don’t be such a hippo-crit!”… Be careful though. Although they are typically herbivorous, hippos have a pretty bad reputation of being very aggressive animals.

[/paragraph]

17. A Baby Octopus

[paragraph]

This could be one of the cutest animals you’ve seen so far, but if you found it on your bed you might probably assume there’s an alien invasion taking place.

[/paragraph][paragraph]

Interestingly, an Octopus can change color according to its mood and its environment. They typically do so in order to hide from potential predators. This one for example, went from pinkish to brown!

[/paragraph]

16. The Snub-nosed Monkeys

They could either pass as cute teddy bears or terrifying toys. You will find them in southern China, as well as in the North of Vietnam and Myanmar. You will have to look up, as they spend most of their life in the trees.

15. The Sphynx Cat

[paragraph]

This cat breed is known for its lack of fur and lemon-shaped eyes. They have an extroverted behavior. They typically cost between $1500 and $2500, and top show quality female cost up to $3500.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

Most Sphynx cats have a high level of energy and they act like dogs, greeting their owners at the door. Well, in the case of this particular cat, I guess TV was really boring that day.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

Because of their very large ears, their thick paw pads, and their large lemon-shaped eyes, they’re sometimes called “the devil’s cats”… I can understand why!

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

Now, some mean people voted this cat one of the five ugliest cat breeds in the world. Despite their rather strange appearance, Sphynxes are still the sweetest cats anyone could want!

[/paragraph]

14. The Axolotl Salamander

[paragraph]

This could be called the “real-life Pokemon”. Unfortunately, they are served deep-fried in a restaurant in Osaka, Japan. Why would you kill and eat this cutie?

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

The Axolotl Salamander can be found in lakes, such as Lake Xochimilco underlying Mexico City. They are a scientific curiosity for several reasons. First, they are able to regenerate limbs. Second, they are able to maintain all their juvenile characteristics even after reaching maturity.

[/paragraph]

14. A baby hedgehog

In all fairness, human babies don’t look so cute either until a couple of weeks after birth… plus the nails of that hand need a bit of polishing! Interesting, hedgehog have been around for a long time and they have changed very little over the last 15 million years.

13. Pugs

He may be wrinkly, but that smile is beyond cute! Did you know that pugs are originally from China and were brought to Europe in the sixteenth century? A few centuries later, they became the favorite dogs of the Royal family in the United Kingdom after Queen Victoria developed a passion for these cuties.

12. A Goat Like This

When we wake up in the morning, we all look sort of like this too. But don’t be fool, goats are known to be extremely curious and intelligent animals, who are capable to hold balance in the most dangerous places.

11. A Baby Echidna

This baby echidna will look like a hedgehog and anteater when it grows older, but let’s appreciate its cuteness while it’s still a baby! Curious to see one in real life? Go to Australia and New Guinea. But you’ll need to be lucky as these animals are very shy.

10. The Sloth

Ah, the sloth! Whether it is cute or ugly has been a hot topic for years. What do you think? I find the sloth really funny to look at. Come on, can you resist this beautiful smile?

9. The Pygmy Tarsier

[paragraph]

This shy cutie’s eyes are as big as its brain! They look just as shocked as you! The pygmy tarsier measures between 95 and 105 mm. However, its eyes are about 16 mm in diameter… that’s why you immediately notice them!

[/paragraph][paragraph]

The pygmy tarsier is a nocturnal animal that lives in Indonesia. However, they are pretty hard to find. In fact, in the early 20th century, scientists believed it had become extinct until they accidentally killed one in 2000 while trapping rats.

8. A Baby Armadillo

Baby armadillos are like small versions of dinosaurs, which makes them cute and other-worldly. But they’re also the only known animal to carry leprosy, so be careful. 7. A Blue Footed Booby

[paragraph]

We promise you this is a real animal and not an adorable toy that you’d want to take home and play with. Its blue feet come from carotenoid pigments obtained from its diet of fresh fish! Males typically display their feet in a sophisticated mating dance by lifting their feet up and down.

[/paragraph]

[paragraph]

The blue-footed booby can be found in the tropical islands of the Pacific Ocean, in the Galápagos Islands in particular. Unfortunately, their population is in decline and this may be due to the increasing scarcity of sardines a key part of the boobies’ diet.
